Apptio TBM Unified Model® (ATUM®)
Employ best practices for data sources, allocation strategies, and KPIs
The Apptio TBM Unified Model (ATUM) is our best practice implementation of Technology Business Management. ATUM is embedded in our products and leverages the TBM Taxonomy to marry cost data from corporate finance with data about IT and business products and services. Using ATUM, our products provide granular, actionable cost analytics that empower technology leaders to manage IT as a business. Apptio developed ATUM through our experience with hundreds of customers and our role as Technology Advisor to the Technology Business Management (TBM) Council.
Data: What to gather
Apptio's ATUM-based approach starts simple, with a few readily-available data sources, and incorporates new and richer data sets over time. ATUM integrates appropriate source data columns and aligns your data to a standard format.
Start with readily-available data sources | |||
---|---|---|---|
General ledger (OpEx) | AWS, Azure & GCP billing logins | Business unit list | |
Capital expenditures (CapEx) | Fixed asset depreciation schedule | Headcount by department | |
Budget (OpEx and CapEx) | Top 20 application list | Project details | |
Cost center hierarchy & Chart of accounts | Available labor details (role, location) | Time tracking |
Taxonomy: How to organize
ATUM aligns your costs to common terminology used across hundreds of Apptio customers and thousands of benchmarked companies. By natively embedding this taxonomy in our products, Apptio automates categorization of costs via mapping rules, while allowing you to customize or extend where needed.
Model: How to calculate
ATUM's pre-defined allocation rules apportion your costs to consuming elements and weight costs according to your operational data. Get started with simple allocations and employ a more sophisticated methodology over time.
